Help If We Can visit to the Western Front

Three Severn Vale students visited the Western Front with the Help If We Can organisation

Severn Vale is lucky to have excellent links with the Help If We Can organisation. Over the May Bank Holiday weekend three students from the school, Logan Moore, Zoe King and Megan Breddy, were chosen by Help If We Can to travel with them on their annual pilgrimage to the Western Front in France and Belgium.

The group visited 10 sites of interest including: Thiepval on the Somme; Tynecot Cemetery, the largest by numbers of burials and also tributes to those never found; and of course the Menin Gate in Ypres. Whilst at the Menin Gate and in front of 18,000 people, including the High Sheriff for Nottinghamshire, and with due pomp and ceremonial they laid the Severn Vale School wreath. In school uniform throughout the ceremony they were an absolute credit to the school, to their parents and themselves.

A huge thank you goes to Steve Smith and the Help If We Can organisation for organising such a fabulous experience for the students.
