The STEM scheme was set up nationally to encourage young people to enter the engineering profession. It is based on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Students were selected to attend a trip based on their current working levels and recommendations from relevant       subject teachers. Staff stated that the two students selected needed to have high levels of      maturity, great independent learning skills and a positive attitude to learning.

On Thursday 20th March 2014 the 14 students selected attended The Bloodhound event at Gloucestershire College, allowing them to see the Car Exhibit and meet the Bloodhound Project Team as they attempt to break the land speed record and eventually create a car that can travel at speeds of 1000 mph.

The students took part in the Bloodhound Science Show before taking part in various Workshops including making their own STOMP Rockets.

STEM workshops give students the opportunity to attend exciting, interactive sessions to         enhance their understanding of a range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths topics and at the same time, have fun! Everyone really enjoyed the day and said it made them think more about how things work as well as the different roles and careers that can come from STEM subjects, including engineering.
