Exam Results — 2018

The secret to the success of the class of 2018? Good old fashioned hard work from the students combined with excellent teaching and high quality pastoral care from a team of talented teachers and support staff.

2018 was another year of significant change on the exam front with the introduction of the new, more challenging 9 – 1 GCSEs for a second wave of subjects. What hasn't changed is the ability of Severn Vale students to rise to a challenge and deliver strong results. In English over 72% of students achieved a 4+ grade, 54% a 5+ grade and over 20% 7+ grades. In Maths over 72% achieved a 4+ grade, 50% a 5+ grade and over 15% 7+ grades. Combined, 64% of students achieved 4+ grades in English and Maths with 40% achieving 5+ grades in both subjects.

Across a number of subjects students achieved superb results. In Citizenship, over 56% of students achieved 7+ grades; in Music 40% of the grades were Distinctions or Distinction*s; in Biology 40% achieved 7+ grades; in Chemistry and Physics 30% achieved 7+ grades; in Combined Science the proportion of students achieving 4 + grades improved by 20%.

The secret to the success of the class of 2018? Good old-fashioned hard work from the students combined with excellent teaching and high quality pastoral care from a team of talented teachers and support staff. It is also only right to acknowledge the support of our students’ parents. These results could not have been achieved without them.

As always there were a range of excellent individual performances. The top performer was Marcus McDonnell who achieved 2 grade 9s, 6 grade 8s and one grade 7.

There were similarly strong performances from:

  • Ryan Browne: 1 x 9; 6 x 8s and 2 x 7s
  • Beth Perry: 1 x 9; 5 x 8s and 3 x 7s
  • Charlie Martin: 3 x 9s; 3 x 8s; 3 x 7s
  • Chloe Smith: 2 x 9s; 5 x 8s; 1 x 7 and 1 x 6

As an 11-16 school we are now bidding a fond farewell to the class of 2018. We are all extremely proud of the academic success they have achieved and of the fine young men and women they have grown to be. The students will now move on to a variety of Sixth Forms, Colleges and Apprenticeships. Given the great foundation they have achieved at Severn Vale I am confident they will go on to make their mark in the world.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with them over the past five years. We wish them the very best.

Our focus as a school now turns to ensuring that next year’s results are even better!
