Cycle Safety Project

Severn Vale School students have benefitted from some very generous donations to make sure our students have everything they need to be safe whilst cycling to school.

Tony Gee & Partners in Stonehouse approached the school to offer a donation after their staff completed a ‘cycle to work’ sponsored event. A high number of Severn Vale students cycle to school, as the majority live within a 2-mile radius of the school, so the cycling theme fitted perfectly with us.

We were delighted to receive the donation, and it developed into a bigger project, where all parents were given the opportunity to request cycle safety equipment their child needed.  Decathlon were pleased to help, giving a discount on the equipment order, and Thrive Education were also delighted to help out with this amazing initiative.

The school PTA, Friends of Severn Vale, were able to add money to the pot to ensure all equipment requested could be afforded, a great use of their varied fundraising efforts. All-in-all, 89 students benefitted from this opportunity.

Richard Johnson, Headteacher at Severn Vale School said, “As a very keen cyclist myself, I know how important it is to keep safe whilst on the road.  With so many of our students local to the school, cycling to and from school is a big thing for us and seeing this initiative taking off really pleases me.  A huge thank you to the companies who have supported us in this, Tony Gee, Thrive Education, Decathlon and our FOSV organisation.”
