Performance Platforms

Our third lunchtime platforms of the academic year and first of 2025 have again proven a vital and thoroughly rewarding part of our school's music and performing culture.
Lots of students signed up, clearly practised and performed well, plus there has been a very promising concerted effort for students introducing their performances in an informative and engaging way - great to see these developments from our young musicians.
Students from Year 7 - 10 showed great participation with our Rhythm Ensemble, School Band, 3 vocal duets (various keen Year 8 students and some of our keen older vocalists) and lots of soloists (3 drummers, a pianist, plus our many Year 7-9 vocalists). The range of music performed has been extremely broad, with choices ranging from grade pieces / songs students have recently working on or performed for their exam, repertoire that students have been working on in their instrumental / vocal lessons or even working on in their own time, as well as students current “firm favourites” too.
Songs from many current globally renowned and award winning artists, bands and musicals have been showcased: the musicals “Wicked” and “Les Miserables”, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Rihanna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Christina Perri as well as lots of emerging artists and bands such as Gracie Abrams, Gigi Perez, Orla Gartland, Lemon Demon, The daughters of Eve and Mom Jeans. Some blasts from the past were also featured too from the Back street boys, Ray Charles and Led Zeppelin. The opportunity for our students to really engage with, learn and develop musical skills that enable them to mature as performers is so important and term 3 has proven to be another term with very encouraging first performances and progress from everyone who participated. Thank you to all who got involved and a huge well done from the Music department too.
Our platforms are of course open to any students ready to take their “first step to performing” as a singer or instrumentalist and this can be to an exclusive audience (friends, music teachers, staff they invite) or for anyone wanting to perform to an open audience of any students and staff. Students who have performed before are always very welcome to participate in as many platforms as they wish too and solos, duets, bands, plus students own songs / composition ideas are all welcome. Term 4 and 6 will offer our final platforms of our 2024-25 year, so do get signed up as soon as you can at the beginning of next term.
