The Big Sing Recording Project

Recording studios cast up images of peace and quiet, soft lighting, comfy Chesterfield sofas, antique rugs, and recording desks reminiscent of the deck of the USS Enterprise!
However, once the red-light flashes on, these boudoirs of calm become an intense musical pressure cooker where any error, mis-pitch, ensemble weakness, flaw in intonation, pin drop, sniff or cough will result in the imitable frown from the producer (on this occasion, Mr. Khokher) and gruff utterance of "Again! Time is money!".
Recording sessions are intense and require high levels of focus, musical, mental and physical stamina, and sheer enthusiasm - our students brought this by the bucket load and this certainly comes across in the recording.
Off the back of the Big Sing competition in term 2, Year 7 tutors nominated students who had contributed with enthusiasm to participate in the Big Sing Recording Project. Miss Newport prepared a group of twenty-six Year 7 students on the vocal parts of ‘Up’, by Ollie Murs while Mr. Martin worked with four Year 10 students on the band parts.
This project has been a unique and fascinating experience, and one we have thoroughly enjoyed involving our young musicians in - they have been fantastic to work with. We are grateful to The Music Works for the use of their state of the art resources and superb studio engineers.
We hope you enjoy the recording - it certainly brought a smile to our faces.
The Music Works also offers a weekly session called ‘The Drop’ which is on Wednesdays after school. More information can be found on…
