Support for Students with SEN
Welcome to the Supported Learning Page.
At Severn Vale, our vision is to offer the best inclusive curriculum and support for families with SEND in Gloucestershire. We believe that all students can achieve and that having a SEND need is and should not be a barrier. The support and expertise that we have in our department helps us to realise that ambition.
We firmly believe in what we do and are very proud of what we deliver. Our wide range of interventions can be seen in the attachment below but include:
- Our own on-site Outdoor Education provision
- Numeracy and Literacy including phonics
- Preparation for adulthood
- KS3/KS4 over-learning
At Severn Vale School students with SEND Needs are supported in a variety of different ways to enable them to make progress following Gloucestershire’s Graduated Approach - Assess, Plan, Do and Review.
Where appropriate, students identified in the transition process as entering Severn Vale working significantly below age related expectations, will be placed in a specific teaching set from point of entry. These students will still access the same range of subjects as their peers. The depth of the curriculum in certain subjects will be modified. This will allow for a range of interventions in literacy, numeracy and social and study skills to be delivered within the curriculum time for these subjects.
This curriculum model will run throughout KS3. The progress of students will be closely monitored and where possible, students will be able to move out of this group.
Below are links to documents that clearly outline the provision that can be available for students with SEND including our SEND Information Report which gives more detailed information about our provision and our SEND intervention offer. There is also a link to our newsletters where you will see the students in action.
