Severn Vale’s Wellbeing Garden

Our gardening intervention at Severn Vale was introduced to support the wellbeing and personal development of our students.

Armed with a grant from Bio revival through the Young Green Britain Challenge at Stroud High School, and some kind donations of equipment from our local community, we have started to develop our garden at school.

This year students have worked throughout the school year and have enjoyed taking part in all aspects of gardening: growing, planting, digging (a firm favourite,) weeding, watering and building.

Students also enjoyed playing, exploring and getting creative in both our garden and forest school area.

We have recently gained our Levels 1 & 2 from the RHS schools gardening campaign and this year and will start working towards Level 3 in September.

Level 1 is about starting out on your school’s gardening journey and getting growing. It also involves making our garden space accessible for learners.

Level 2 focuses on supporting pupil wellbeing and developing new gardening skills. It also provides an opportunity to show how pupil voice is a fundamental part of growing and caring for plants in your school.

We are excited to get back in the garden this year; it really is a firm favourite for many of our students.

We would also be grateful of any donations of equipment, used or new, that will help us expand this provision. If anyone has anything or you would like further details, please contact SENDAdmin@severnvaleschool.com
