On Tuesday 10th May, six of our Year 8 students, Will Carey, Tyler Snaith, Lauren Wilkins, Sam Colliver, Ollie Nicklin and Dylan Stacey went to EDF Energy, Barnwood with Mrs Davis to have their engineering project assessed and judged alongside 13 other projects from Gloucester and Cheltenham schools.
Our students had chosen to undertake the project “energy and our school”; the team chose to focus on insulation and then designed their own new insulation material. During the 10 weeks the students had to produce a comprehensive report, a model of a new improved classroom and a display board. On finals day the team also had to deliver a 5 minute presentation about their work and then answer questions from the judging panel. The judges were very impressed with the team’s overall presentation and at the prize giving awarded them the trophy for Best Overall Project. The team therefore have gained a place at the South West finals to be held at the Big Bang Science and Engineering festival at Exeter University in June.
