On Wednesday 8th June, Severn Vale took more students than ever before to compete at the District Athletics Competition at The Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham.
There were a number of excellent performances on the day which deserve a mention. Harrison Sohna winning the Long Jump and coming second in the 1500m. Rhys Goodman winning the High Jump and coming third in the Javelin. Flynn Clarke winning the High Jump. Charlie Norris winning the Shot. Taro Weston coming second in both the 800m and 1500m. Tyrike coming second in the 200m and third in the 100m. Osezuwa Inyinbor coming second in the High Jump and third in the 200m. Chiaka Okoro coming second in the Long Jump and third in the 1500m. However the individual performance of the day has to go to Tyler Maden who smashed the Year 8 boys’ 100m record which was one of the oldest school records having been set in 1987 by 0.31 seconds. Tyler also won the 200m in a time just outside of the school record.
In terms of teams the Year 8 Boys’ Team came third with the Year 7 and 9 Boys’ Teams coming fourth. Overall Severn Vale ranked fifth out of the twelve schools competing.
Everyone who competed on the day should be commended for their excellent behaviour and how well they competed against one of the best fields of athletes we have come up against in many years in the sweltering heat.
