About Our Catering Service at Severn Vale School
The catering service at Severn Vale School is provided by our own Catering Team. We are very proud of the range and quality of food offered across each school day, which is enjoyed by our students and staff.
We understand what children eat affects their health and their ability to learn and perform in the classroom. At Severn Vale School, our catering team will provide nutritious, balanced meals, and we will work to educate the pupils on how to make healthier food choices. Our goal is to instil a love and understanding of fresh, healthy food at a young age that will positively influence them throughout life.
Our catering team at Severn Vale School will tailor menus to the tastes and preferences of the pupils. We will introduce further interest and excitement to our menus through themed lunches ranging from cuisines from around the world and theme days, tying these into the school curriculum whenever possible.
Rather than one large dining hall, we provide individual service in each year group area. This ensures smaller queues and all students having the opportunity to buy and enjoy their food during breaks.
Breakfast - Hot and cold breakfast items are available from the main hall from 8am until 8.35am. We also provide toast at our ‘Getting Ready’ club in the Main Hall each morning.
Morning break – Hot and cold items are available from each servery. Sample menus and price lists below.
Lunch - Hot and cold items (including meal deals) are available from each servery. Sample menus and price lists below.
Please don’t think that your child can’t enjoy great food if they have a special diet – they are an important part of our catering service. We can provide food if they have an intolerance, an allergy or require an alternative choice due to religious beliefs.
We already cater for lots of students with allergies and we regularly check the information from suppliers to see if there have been any ingredient changes. It is important that our customers talk to us so we can work together and continue to provide meals that are safe for them to eat.
All Catering staff are trained in Allergen Awareness.
Students and staff with known allergies have current photos with their allergy listed on display in the kitchen area so staff are aware of their allergy.
Stringent preparation procedures are in place to prevent cross contamination when preparing foods that can cause allergic reactions.
Allergen information is highlighted on individual accounts within our biometric till system. The till displays a message to inform catering staff of any known allergens or intolerances.
Each servery hosts an Allergen Guide to the current menu, containing all known allergens from the 14 recognised ingredients. This includes all foods which manufacturers state “may contain” certain allergens.
In October 2021, Natasha’s Law came into effect in England, amending the Food Information Regulations 2019. The legislation requires all food businesses producing pre-packaged foods on their premises to clearly label every item with a full list of ingredients, highlighting any allergens.
Here at Severn Vale School we use a compliant labelling system to ensure all freshly-prepared packaged items such as baguettes, wraps, fruit pots and salad pots contain up-to-date allergen and ingredient information.
If your child has specific dietary needs, or if you require any further information, please contact our Catering Manager, Paul Bradford – canteen@severnvaleschool.com
